ACTIVE PASTOR SEARCH, PASTOR INFORMATION FORM (PIF) PHASE (8/17/08 update)

The Church Information Form (CIF) received final approval on July 21st two weeks earlier than anticipated.  The CIF was posted shortly thereafter on the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) website, the monster.com for ministry openings within the denomination.

The Southminster CIF posting has received 116 internet hits or views since it was posted.  More importantly, the PNC has received nineteen (19) Personal Information Forms (PIFs) from prospective pastor candidates applying for our pastor opening.  Of the 19 PIFs received, the PNC is excited about several of the candidates and they are in the process of obtaining DVDs and podcasts of their past sermons and scheduling preliminary conversations with some of the candidates.

Although information related to specific candidates must remain confidential, the PNC will continue to communicate their general progress through weekly Church Bulletins, the Narthex Bulletin Board, the Information Center, monthly Moment for Mission speakers, the PNC website and monthly Signal articles.

Please continue to pray for the PNC members as they attempt to discern God's will for our church and find the Pastor that God has called to serve us.

CHURCH INFORMATION FORM (CIF) PHASE (7/27/08 update)

The Presbytery Committee on Ministry (COM) approved our Session approved Church Information Form (CIF) on July 21st, two weeks earlier than anticipated. The CIF has been posted on the Presbyterian Church USA website (the monster.com for ministry positions) and Pastor Head of Staff candidates are already responding.  The PNC members cannot divulge any specific candidate information because of the confidential and sensitive nature of the process.  All Pastor Information Forms (PIF) will be kept in strictest confidence.

The Session approved the CIF draft with minor revisions at their June 22nd meeting.  The revised CIF was forwarded to the Presbytery Committee on Ministry (COM) seeking approval at their next meeting on August 5th.  The CIF will be posted on the PCUSA website once it is approved by the COM.  This will begin the active search phase of the pastor nominating process and allow the PNC to start receiving Personal Information Forms (PIFs) from prospective pastor candidates.

While the CIF is awaiting COM approval, the PNC worked ahead in July laying the groundwork for the active search phase.  Networking and referral contacts have been identified who may help spread the word of our search for a pastor.  Through our networking contacts we may gain knowledge of pastors with a calling for a new church such as ours.  A process for reviewing Personal Information Forms (PIF) was also formulated.

Please feel free to contact the PNC with any referrals.  All referrals will be kept in the strictest confidence.

The PNC sincerely thanks the 52 members of the congregation and the PNC who attended the Informational Meeting on June 29th.  The PNC is encouraged by the turnout and the high level of interest exhibited at the meeting.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The PNC completed their first draft of the Church Information Form (CIF) at the June 16th meeting and they are now working on obtaining the necessary approvals.  The PNC will be hosting an Informational Meeting open to the entire congregation on Sunday, June 29th at 10:15 AM.  A Question and Answer period will also be provided.  Please plan to attend.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The PNC has completed Stage 1 of 3 of the Pastor Nominating Process and is currently working on the Church Information Form (CIF) in Stage 2. The list of required and desired skills has been finalized.  The committee is being challenged with the five narrative questions/statements to be addressed in depth.  The challenge is to use no more than 1,500 characters in completing each of the five narrative questions/statements.  The job description and terms of call are also in the process of being outlined.

PASTOR NOMINATING COMMITTEE

INFORMATIONAL MEETING

FELLOWSHIP HALL

JUNE 29TH ... 10:15 A.M.

(4/28/08 Update)

The Session affirmed the PNC's mission study work at the April 26th Officers' Meeting that included the Session and the Deacons.  As a result, the PNC started work on the Church Information Form (CIF).  The PNC began discussions on completing the narrative and the pastor skill requirements sections of the CIF at the April 28th meeting.  To meet the CIF workload demands, the workgroups were re-organized.  The former members of the Mission Study workgroup were re-deployed since their work was completed.  Doug Earle and Nell Schwartz were re-assigned to the CIF workgroup and Clara Goforth was re-assigned to the Correspondence workgroup.

PNC TRANSITION to CIF PHASE  (4/21/08 update)

The Southminster Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) was engaged in prayerful discernment of the mission study responses during the first half of April.  Discernment centered around two questions, “Who are we as a congregation (right now)?” and “Who is God calling us to be (as a congregation)?”.  The mission study responses were reviewed and considered in detail on multiple occasions in trying to discern the answer to these two questions.

The PNC completed the mission study discernment process at their April 21st meeting and has a meeting scheduled with the session on April 26th.  The purpose of this meeting is for the PNC to share the information and their findings from the mission study with the Session and to provide the Session with an opportunity to share their views with regard to those findings and God’s call for the congregation.

After meeting with the Session, the PNC's energies and focus will be re-directed towards completing the Church Information Form (CIF).  The CIF is the document that the PNC will use as Southminster's story to introduce our congregation and our sense of identity and mission to prospective pastoral candidates.  It will also list the gifts, talents and abilities that are needed in the new pastor.  Once the completed CIF is formally approved by the Session and the Presbytery’s Committee on Ministry, it will be posted on the PCUSA website.  This will begin the active search phase of the pastor nominating process and allow the PNC to start receiving Personal Information Forms (PIFs) from prospective pastor candidates.

Please continue to include the PNC members in your prayers.

PRESBYTERIAN PASTOR NOMINATING PROCESS IN GENERAL

The Presbyterian Church USA website contains a manual that provides an excellent overview of the process for the calling of a new pastor.  The manual is titled, “On Calling A Pastor,” and it can be accessed freely at www.pcusa.org/clc/handbook_pastor.htm .  This is the process that the PNC will be closely following in the selection of a pastor nominee.

Thank you for entrusting us with this important responsibility.
