What is the Apartment Ministry?

The Church Apartment Ministry provides affordable fully furnished apartments near the Medical Center for people coming to Houston for short or long-term medical treatment.

How many churches in Houston are involved?

There are 13 churches involved with a total of 75 apartments.  Southminster has one apartment.

What if I need an apartment?

How does it work?

Southminster leases the apartment on an unfurnished basis. We, in turn, furnish it and lease it to patients. By operating on a "break-even" basis, we are able to make it available at a significantly lower cost than other housing in the area.

Who provides the furnishings for these apartments?

The people of our congregation have donated most of the furnishings for the apartment. Beds, TV’s and other big items are provided from our church and also with cash contributions.

How are the volunteers from our church involved?

When an apartment becomes available, we get the list of patients who are on the waiting list. The waiting list is compiled by South Main Baptist Church and faxed to us every day. We then call prospective tenants and meet them at the apartment to go over details including signing the lease. We try to make their stay as comfortable as possible by helping them with questions they may have during their stay, such as phone numbers, transportation options, language help, etc.
