The
Ministers of the Cloth are the quilting group that makes the baptism quilts
given to each infant baptized at Southminster. We also make and donate
larger quilts for the Southminster School auction and for fund-raisers at
the church and for area charities. An ongoing project has been the
"Solder Quilts" for wounded solders and the "Patches" quilt of military
patches. Pictures and articles at links below.
Two new undertakings are The
Apartment Ministry and Operation Til It Ends.
The Ministers of the Cloth
have joined forces with the Apartment Ministry by contributing one of their
beautiful lap-sized quilts for each family housed by the Apartment Ministry.
The quilts are embroidered with the Southminster name. The families take our
church and its support home with them when they return to their communities.
In 2007, we became involved with a
local organization called, "Operation Til It Ends". This group supports our
troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our quilters are helping by making neck
coolers for the soldiers to wear while on patrol. For more information, go
to their website at www.operationtilitends.org.
Nursery
care is available by reservation during our meetings. We meet every Tuesday in the choir room from 9 am
until noon.
You do not
have to be an expert seamstress or quilter to join. Most of us have learned
on the job! We always need ironers, cutters, and hand-sewers as well as
those who bring their sewing machines.
